COOKIES & STORAGE
Cookies Policy.
Last updated: October 23, 2026
This policy describes cookies and similar browser storage on Only Surfski. For questions, contact legal@onlysurfski.com.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small pieces of information a website can ask your browser to store and send back with later requests. Local storage is a separate browser mechanism for retaining information on your device. Both can be used for preferences, authentication or tracking.
2. Current use on Only Surfski
We use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-H8QMQR4KYK) to analyze traffic across the site. The Google tag loads immediately and can use cookies such as _ga and _ga_* to distinguish visitors and sessions. Cookie lifetimes depend on the Analytics configuration. The site has no embedded social-media player.
The notice at the bottom of the page offers Learn more and Ok, Got it. Learn more opens this policy in a new tab. Ok, Got it dismisses the notice and stores onlysurfski.cookies.accepted=true in session storage for the current tab session. This is an informational acknowledgement, not a consent control; Analytics is not blocked before acknowledgement and dismissing the notice does not change tracking.
Search text is held in application memory. Category and country filters can be saved in the URL rather than in a cookie. Browser caching of images and other files is not the same as setting a tracking cookie.
The homepage stores the last shown banner number in session storage as onlysurfski.banner so the next visit can open on a different phrase. It stays in this tab, is not sent to the server, and is not used to identify or track you.
3. External websites and infrastructure
Opening a competition's place preview loads a Google Maps static image when configured. Google may use cookies or storage for its map service; its own privacy and cookie policies apply.
Competition data can be requested from kayak.love. Instagram, official race websites, Wikimedia Commons and license pages are linked externally. Those services may apply their own cookies or storage practices when you access them; their policies apply independently.
Hosting or security infrastructure may have separate technical requirements. Any additional cookie use introduced by deployment or future features must be reviewed and reflected here.
4. Browser controls
You can also use Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on where supported.
You can review, block or delete cookies and website storage in your browser settings. Check your browser's help pages for instructions. Clearing cookies on another website does not change that website's account settings or remove public competition records.
5. Updates and contact
We will update this policy when our cookie and analytics practices change. Any consent controls required for the deployment's applicable laws must be reviewed separately; the informational notice does not replace them.
